More than 40 witnesses called in Todd Parnell case

MORE than 40 witnesses from across Queensland will tell the Brisbane Supreme Court what they saw the night Bribie Island Warrigals' star five-eighth and Queensland rugby league player Todd Parnell was punched to the floor.

Wally James Hung is facing a manslaughter trial for delivering the punch that knocked the 23-year-old to the ground at the Warrigals' clubhouse in Bongaree, where they had been after a home game, to celebrate two combined 21st birthdays in July, 2009.

Mr Parnell's family switched off life support the next day.

The Crown intends to prove the punch was not accidental, that death was reasonably foreseeable consequence of the blow.

Hung has pleaded not guilty to the offence, arguing the punch was a direct reaction to Mr Parnell hitting his mate.
