More than 35 lose jobs as Monto’s Goondicum mine suspended

MORE than 35 people will lose their jobs next week when Monto's Goondicum mine suspends operations.

Belridge Enterprises started mining ilmenite, used for paint fillers, welding rods and pharmaceutical products, in August last year.

Managing director Mark McCauley said the company had been running at a loss and the mine's viability would be reviewed at the end of the year.

The Goondicum mine is 50km east of Monto.
