Lucky region? Residents win $13 million in lotto

IS THE Toowoomba region becoming one of the luckiest in the country?

In what has been a bit of a winning streak, residents have scored more than $13 million in prize money in the matter of just a few months.

The money came from winning Lotto and Instant Scratch-It tickets, with eight major wins since June in Toowoomba, Stanthorpe, Warwick, Gatton, Nanango, Inglewood and Goondiwindi.

1. TOOWOOMBA

One of the biggest wins kicked off the streak, with a hardworking Toowoomba-region man winning $1.3 million in Saturday Gold Lotto on June 10.

The man bought his ticket from Oakey Newsagency and said he would use his winnings to plan his retirement, help his family and fulfil his dream of travelling the country.

2. INGLEWOOD

An Inglewood man spent just $1 on an Instant Scratch-It ticket but it turned into a $10,000 win on July 14.

The great-grandfather couldn't believe his eyes when he scratched off the winnings but said he would use it as a tidy nest egg.

It was the most the man had ever won after purchasing the ticket from Sutto's Inglewood Newsagency.

3. NANANGO

A Nanango woman won close to $1 million in Saturday Gold Lotto on July 15.

The woman said she could now say goodbye to "penny pinching" and worrying about the household budget after scoring a division one prize of $985,744. 11.

The winning ticket was bought from Nanango Newsagency.

4. TOOWOOMBA

The winning feeling quickly returned to Toowoomba after seven lucky residents shared in a division one prize of $812,629.30 from Saturday Gold Lotto on August 5.

The residents were grinning ear-to-ear after their syndicate Stuck with Smiley scored the prize.

The winning syndicate was bought from South Street Newsagency.

5. GATTON

Easily the biggest win of them all, a Gatton couple won an entire division one prize of $3 million in Powerball on August 10.

The hardworking couple could not believe the news when a Golden Casket official rang them.

They planned to use their winnings to set themselves up for a happy and worry-free retirement as well as sharing the prize with family.

The winning ticket was bought from Gatton Plaza Newsagency.

6. WARWICK

A Warwick grazier decided a division one prize win of $830,431.50 was "better than a poke in the eye".

The man scored his winnings in Saturday Gold Lotto on August 19 after buying his ticket from Kalbar Newsagency.

The happy winner had a "strange feeling" he would win big and said his new fortune would give him greater financial security for the future and would help him build his cattle herd.

7. GOONDIWINDI

A Goondiwindi farmer planned to treat herself and her husband to an overseas holiday after winning $100,000 on an Instant Scratch-Its Crosswords ticket.

The lucky lady bought the ticket from Bishops News Nextra in Goondiwindi in August.

The woman said her Instant Scratch-Its routine helped her win big, with herself and her husband regularly buying a ticket each.

8. STANTHORPE

The region's most recent win went to a Stanthorpe dad who won $1,030,795 in Gold Lotto on Monday.

The man had no idea of his good fortune until he got a call from a Golden Casket official.

He bought his winning ticket from Stanthorpe Newsagency and said he would use his winnings to help set his kids up for the future.
