Modern beach house evokes holiday feel at Tewantin

Once in a while you find a place that immediately feels like home. This is one of them. It's a sleek surf shack with a modernist soul.

One that evokes holidays at the beach, of swimming all day, going crabbing, looking in rock pools. A surprising design embellished with funky inclusions. The feeling of being in the bush, yet just minutes from the surf.

Every day is an endless summer, and every moment is an opportunity to hang ten in a home of joy and light. Gated from the street, the property begins at a pavilion gate house with timber steps that lead up to the landing with stone features.

Double timber doors swing open to reveal an interior that brings new meaning to the term "open plan".

Dining, living, kitchen, indoor and outdoor entertaining... all are connected by a shallow in-ground water feature. This spills into a central self-cleaning swimming pool. These are the natural anchor for all surrounding areas.

In a place that blends beachside beauty with urban sensibility, it makes sense that the heart of the home would be a body of water.

Linked to the living area by a timber bridge over the water feature, bifolds to the right take you across to an indoor/outdoor dining area.

To the left you cross the entry to the open-plan kitchen. Raked ceilings and ceiling-height louvres in the living area invite in an abundance of natural light.

Thick stone atop the island bench has two overhang fringes, which jut out over under-bench storage and display nooks.

The kitchen offers a walk-in pantry at the far end, and a roll-down appliance cabinet with internal electrical points. A gas cooktop and icemaker fridge complement the stainless steel Essential by Lofra under-bench oven.

Against the clean white palette, a black mirrored soundproof door slides either way to reveal a massive carpeted media room, or an office with separate powder room.

Step out through a wall of glass doors from the open-plan kitchen to a second undercover al fresco zone.

Look out across the pool as you recline with a book, afternoon snack, or enjoy quiet time with the family.

A hall to the right of the entry takes you to the bedroom wing. The main bedroom is peaceful and secluded, with louvres looking out to the front garden.

Move through to the ensuite with semi-frameless glass on the double shower. A white square basin sits atop a timber-look vanity. Two more bedrooms are tiled throughout with views to the side gardens and sliding built-in wardrobes.

The main bathroom offers separate shower and deep bath tub. Take three steps down to the rumpus room or possible children's/teenagers' lounge. Split system air-conditioning cools the space in the warm seasons. Built-in seating offers hidden storage.

Another bedroom or office/studio is at the back, just before a complete laundry which opens from an outdoor undercover walkway. A wall of vertical battens open out to the pool, protecting the interior for the ideal under-roof drying area.

Step out to the pool from the flat lawn area to a detached, semi-enclosed pool pavilion. Galvanised steel supports built-in benches, where you look back towards the home across the pool and water feature.

Designed to lock up and leave, it's about as easy care as they come; thoughtfully designed with a friendly feel and true heart.
