Mitchell Pearce suspended for eight games over lewd video

Mitchell Pearce has been fined $125,000 and suspended for eight NRL games as punishment for the lewd video scandal.

The NRL and the Roosters came to an agreement over the punishment on Thursday, with Pearce able to return in the round nine clash against the Newcastle Knights.

The 26-year-old half-back was stood down from Roosters training and eventually the co-captaincy after he was filmed simulating a lewd act involving a dog on Australia Day.

After the video emerged, Pearce apologised and admitted he had a problem with alcohol.

Pearce returned to Australia on Sunday following treatment in a Thai rehabilitation centre, apologising for a second time and adding he was keen to get back to playing football.
