Closer to Miss Bikini World title

THERE may not be any beaches in Ipswich, but that hasn't stopped the city from boasting at least one stunning bikini beauty.

Alix Newton, 22, is hoping to light up the runway when she struts out at the Miss Bikini World in Darwin next month.

The journalism student from Booval will be one of 30 girls vying to win the prestigious title.

Ms Newton first dreamed of becoming a female boxer, but in recent years her curvaceous figure has helped her carve out an impressive portfolio of professional modelling work.

Although now based in Brisbane's Fortitude Valley, she loves coming back to the city she still calls home.

“Being back in Ipswich is great,” she said yesterday.

“The first thing I'm going to do is have a Big Dad's pie and Jacaranda milk.

“I loved it here and there are some things here you just can't get in the bigger cities.”

Last year she won the Miss Personality section in the bikini contest and is thrilled to be participating again this year.

“Miss Bikini World is considered the premium bikini event and the competition will be tough,” she said.

Ms Newton works out for up to two hours a day.

“Exercising comes as second nature to me,” she said.

“You obviously need a lot of confidence to do what I do, and keeping fit and strong is what I love most.”

In her first year of a dual degree in journalism and political science at the University of Queensland in St Lucia, Ms Newton is firmly en route to a flourishing career both on and off the catwalk.

“I'll be on the front covers of Oxygen and Women's Health and will also do a shoot for the La Femme Physique and Pumped Up Down Under calendars.”

Ms Newton featured in men's and fitness magazines throughout 2008, most recently in a four-page Ralph photo shoot in January.

Ms Newton is also basking in the joy of a new relationship, and true to the saying, first impressions are what matters most.

“I'm dating Make Me A Supermodel finalist Billy Bishop,” she said.

“At first I was really nervous and it still doesn't seem real. What's great is that he is even better looking in person.”
