Ministerial praise for busy parole and probation staff

CORRECTIVE Services Minister Jo-Ann Miller was in Ipswich this week to praise staff at the busiest probation and parole office in Queensland.

The new Southern Regional and Ipswich Probation and Parole District Office, in Wharf Street, supervises 1091 offenders.

"The 40 staff who work in the premises do terrific work to help rehabilitate offenders and keep the community safe," Ms Miller said.

"The former office, at 265 Brisbane Street, was established in 1996 and was one of the oldest probation and parole offices in Queensland.

"When it opened it supervised 675 offenders - now the Ipswich office alone is responsible for 1091 offenders while the Southern Region supervises 2285.

"The state-of-the-art offices are an investment in the service that improves the environment for workers and offenders and supports the excellent work that is done there."
