Mike Hussey takes on coaching role with Cricket Centre
FORMER Australia batsman Michael Hussey will join the coaching staff at the National Cricket Centre in Brisbane as a consultant batting coach with the National Performance Program.
In announcing the appointment today, Cricket Australia said Hussey would work closely with the National Performance Squad program, Australia A and the Commonwealth Bank Southern Stars.
He will work alongside other coaching staff and consultants that support the National Performance Program including Troy Cooley, Graeme Hick (batting), John Davison, Brad Hogg (spin) and Tim Coyle (wicket-keeping and fielding).
Cooley, the National Cricket Centre Head Coach said securing Hussey's services is a coup for Australian Cricket.
"Mike has played all around the world and mastered the art of playing in all three formats. To be able to use his skills, knowledge and outstanding leadership skills to help develop the next generation of Australian players is just fantastic.
"Mike's involvement and contribution to a successful era of Australian cricket makes him the complete package and our young up and coming male and female players will benefit greatly from working with him," said Cooley.
Hussey said he was thrilled to be able to continue his love of Australian cricket through this role.
"The opportunity to work with the country's finest young talent is exciting and I'm looking forward to getting started with the National Performance Squad in Brisbane in the coming months," he said.
Hussey will continue to be based in Perth, but will travel to the National Cricket Centre in Brisbane to fulfil his coaching duties on a part-time basis.
The National Performance Squad will be selected this month.
