Mike and Tarq's troppo night on MKR satisfies

FINALLY a team in Colin Fassnidge's round of instant restaurants has delivered the goods on My Kitchen Rules.

Far North Queensland father and son Mike and Tarq served up three courses without any of the major dramas that plagued their fellow teams on the reality cooking show.

The "dad jokes" came thick and fast as Mike showed off his penchant for puns during their shopping and preparation time.

Mike and Tarq might have encouraged their guests to relax upon arrival at their restaurant Island Thyme, but they didn't cook on island time.

"A lot of things could have gone wrong with this dish, but I do think you ticked a lot of boxes here," Rachel Khoo said of their entree.

"There was a complexity with the flavours. The prawn skewers were well balanced.

"The pawpaw salad had lots of lovely flavours…however I think you dressed it too early because my pawpaw was lacking that freshness."

Fassnidge urged them not to tone down any of their spices for the sake of the dinner guests, but he still wasn't satisfied with the amount of heat in Mike's spinach and lamb curry.

"I was expecting a wallop of chili, but I loved the spinach," he said.

"In terms of presentation, I've been to top restaurants that do curries and this would stand up there."

Buoyed by the positive feedback, former hotel manager Mike and pro golfer Tarq finished on a high with a tropical dessert of Tarq's own creation.

"I wanted to be taken off to a tropical island I got that," Khoo said.

"It really brought alive the tropical theme of the menu and it finished off your dinner in the perfect way."

The father and son now sit at the top of the leaderboard with a score of 80, comfortably ahead of Eva and Jason and Carmine and Lauren.

Stepmother and daughter Hazel and Lisa will host their instant restaurant in Brisbane on Sunday.
