Metal peg spears Warwick man’s leg

WARWICK car salesman Jeremy Ralph is recovering in hospital after a freak accident on Tuesday, in which a large steel peg skewered both the car he was driving and his leg.

Mr Ralph, who is a manager at Cassels Automotive, has undergone surgery since the accident and his boss David Cassels said the dealership team had thrown their support behind their workmate.

"He was travelling back from Inglewood in one of our cars and has run over a 3ft marquee steel peg, which was on the road, and it has gone through the car floor and into his leg," she said.

"You wouldn't hear about it happening again," he said.

It is believed the peg may have fallen from a travelling carnival worker's vehicle.

"All of the trucks from the Ekka are going through there so we'd say it has fallen off one of them," Mr Cassels said.

Mr Ralph's friendly face will be missing from the dealership floor, while he recovers from his injuries.

"He is doing fine and has had an operation to have a rod inserted from his knee to his ankle," Mr Cassels said.

"He is our Subaru brand manager and we will miss him in here but there are plenty of staff here so his customers will be taken care of.

"We are glad he is ok and we just want him to know we are looking out for him."
