Met West is the best when it comes to basketball skill

SOME of the Ipswich region's most talented basketballers shared in the recent state title success.

The Met West under-15 girls team secured the title by beating Met East 66-55 in the grand final at the Sunshine Coast University.

The tremendous effort created history as no previous Met West girls' combination had won the under 15 or 18 year competitions.

Met West was undefeated.

"It was an excellent accomplishment by fantastic girls and is great news for Ipswich basketball,'' said Amelia Jackwitz, who was head coach for the first time.

Jackwitz had also managed the Ipswich Force under-14 girls team that won the state title and the Met West under-12 girls team that came third earlier in the year.

The Met West under-15 girls are involved in the club and school programs.

The history-making team was Kate Head, Grace George, Tanyha James (Ipswich Girls' Grammar School); Ainslee Heuston (Bremer State High); Tyla Stolberg (St Peter Claver College); Brooklyn Betham (St Mary's College); and Talitha Cox, Cassie Poulain, Eseta Latu, Kuini Latu (St. Peters Springfield).

Kate, Grace, Ainslee and Cassie were named in the honorary Queensland team.

Brooklyn, Cassie, Kate and Grace are part of the developing Ipswich Force Queensland Basketball League women's squad.

Tanyha and Talitha are also involved with Ipswich Basketball.
