ONE of Gladstone's most-popular venues is getting closer to a big addition.

The new 60-room Mercure Hotel at Yaralla Sports Club is on track to open in September. Construction began about a year ago.

Yaralla Sports Club chief executive Will Schroeder yesterday said the project was on schedule and he thanked the community for its patience during construction. Some of the parking taken up during construction will be returned to guests in the next four to six weeks.

The project will create an additional 60 car parks for the fitness centre.

Mr Schroeder said the public could go on a tour of the site every second Thursday at 5pm. The next tour is on May 3. Phone Yaralla Sports Club for details.
