Meet the Brisbane breakfast radio king's replacement

THE ABC has announced Craig Zonca will step into the weekday breakfast slot - taking the place of Spencer Howson who announced he was stepping out of the spot.

Howson cited being sick of the early 3.30am start as the reason he wanted out of the show - he had been leading Brisbane's radio ratings and had been holding down the morning news onslaught for the past 11 years.

Howson's replacement Zonca has been hosting the Queensland Country Hour for the past three years as well as presenting Weekend weather on ABC TV News for the past two years.

"We are very excited to welcome one of the ABC's rising talents into our team," Local Manager, Jen Brennen said via statement.

"Craig has had a remarkable broadcasting career working in Local Radio in Rockhampton, Townsville, Toowoomba and Brisbane.

"He brings with him a wealth of radio experience and he is trusted and well-loved by our Queensland audience.

"In 2017, 612 ABC Brisbane will continue to be the place the community turns to for news of what's happening in their world.

"We're really excited about the talent and content mix on offer. It's all part of a refreshed look and sound for ABC Radio."
