Little Paddy's fightback impresses medical staff

A TEAM of medical professionals caring for young Toowoomba accident victim Patrick O'Sullivan is pleased with his progress.

Patrick, 5, was critically injured when thrown from an amusement ride at a school fete on May 19.

Patrick's father Barry O'Sullivan Jr said yesterday that Patrick was awake, talking to his family and eating - all positive signs for a successful recovery.

He said the family was thrilled with Patrick's improvement although he has to undergo around three months of intensive rehabilitation at Mater.

"Each step he takes gives us great comfort and means he's closer to coming home," Mr O'Sullivan said.

"Patrick is under the care of a rehabilitation team at the Mater whereby he receives physiotherapy, occupational therapy, strength testing and neurological assessments.

"The team is very pleased with his progression, but there are still going to be some challenging days ahead.

"I would like to acknowledge the dedication of the medical staff at the Mater who never left Patrick's side in the days after his accident and the ongoing treatment and exceptional care they are providing to ensure he has the best chance of a full recovery.

"I personally would like to thank the staff for the unwavering support they have given my wife and I and the extended family during this difficult time."
