Mayors meet with Michelle Landry to talk FIFO

MAYORS from Whitsunday, Mackay and Isaac regional councils have met with LNP member for Capricornia Michelle Landry in Canberra as all four consider how to protect their region from an increase in fly-in, fly-out workers.

Ms Landry wants to address a policy by BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance that has it recruiting for two Moranbah coal mines exclusively from south-east Queensland and Cairns.

Whitsunday's Jennifer Whitney, Mackay's Deirdre Comerford and Isaac's Anne Baker met with Ms Landry on Tuesday to discuss how the policy was affecting their regions.

The three mayors were in town as part of a Regional Organisation of Councils trip.

The 100% FIFO policy is currently supported by the Queensland LNP Government.
