Matt returns to the surf after whirlwind Big Brother
AFTER 50 days confined to a house, living with 16 strangers, Matt Filippi is back on the beaches of the Sunshine Coast.
The Big Brother evictee from Maroochydore enjoyed some free time yesterday, heading out on the surf with his twin brother Luke, after a 24-hour whirlwind of interviews and photo shoots.
Matt, who is an apprentice electrician, was evicted from the Dreamworld-based reality television house on Monday night.
"It's a bit weird being back on the Coast and hearing the sound of the ocean again, because it was just so quiet in the house, but I'm stoked to be back," Matt said.
"But I haven't had much time to take it all in yet, everything is happening right now so it will take me a few weeks to settle back into everyday life.
"I missed the beach a lot; surfing was one of the biggest things I missed in the house, even just the freedom of going down to the beach.
Matt, who quickly forged a reputation as one of the macho men in the house, first auditioned in Brisbane after being fast tracked to the second round through video submissions.
"I was fast tracked straight to the interview with 12 people then from there I had a one on one with the producer and then a month later I got the all clear to go to the last audition in Brisbane, I think there were about 40 of us and there were three of us picked which was Ben, Jasmin and me.
"I've always been interested in Big Brother, when I finished school I wanted to do something crazy and something different so I joined the army, did that for six years and I've been back on the Coast for two years now.
"I wanted my next adventure and when I saw Big Brother come up I applied and here I am on this crazy rollercoaster."
Matt sat down with the Daily at Maroochydore beach to find out a little bit more about what life is really like in the Big Brother house."
Q&A WITH MATT FILIPPI ...
IS TIM PLAYING THE GAME?
"Tim's annoying, yet funny, you can't trust him, then you can trust him.
"He's playing the game so well and he's gone in there with the right mindset, plus he's a really smart bloke too."
"I want Ed to win, but I think Tim will win."
"You have got to be that sort of person like Ben or Tim to play the game, I was just being myself, if I went in there trying to someone else and acting like I play the game and if I got kicked out because of it, I'd regret it."
IS BEN GENUINE?
"Ben is a great character, a lot people have asked me about him.
"I think it was him 100% but watching last night at my brother's house, I saw that once Ben is on his own he tends to act and talk to himself, so he might be putting it on a bit, but most of it is genuine.
WHAT IS TULLY'S PROBLEM?
"I tried to keep out of the whole Tully and Drew situation, but it's so obvious in the house they are together, because all they do is hold each other's hands and cuddle.
"They don't spend any time with any of the other housemates.
"I think that will have an effect on their time in the house, obviously I saw in house that they like each other and now that I am out I heard they had been making out and told each other they loved each other, they are argue like they are a married couple and they are always bickering with each other.
"I think it might have an affect on them, it might be entertaining for the public now, but in the long run, especially for Drew, he will look back and realise he has wasted one of the best experiences of his life."
"I got along with Tully really well at the start, I don't think she changed so much, I think she showed her proper self.
"I am such a positive person and she's so negative and being around someone negative 24/7, their negativity gets draining and I knew I needed to push her away a bit or talk to her about it, because I'm here to have an experience for myself and I don't want her to dampen my experience."
"At the start it was easy to pick who was going to go, but then when Caleb and Heidi left it was just so hard to pick, so you can never go into an eviction thinking you will be safe.
"I think Ed used the Superpower wisely, it would have been so hard you have to think of so many things-do you put up people you think will get saved or people that will go? You don't want to waste your nominations.
"It's kind of a waste of time to put people like Ben or Tim up, it's obvious they are strong in the game and so entertaining.
"I nominated Mikkayla because when I was in the army I was bossed around all the time and being out of the army things are completely different so being in that house and having someone try and control you and be bossy and rude about it, I don't like that."
WHAT WILL ED DO NOW?
"I think Ed being alone now he will struggle a lot and I know he won't get close to Tully, Drew and Tim, he will probably lean more towards the other girl's a lot more because they are more trustworthy."
WHAT MATT MISSED THE MOST:
His girlfriend Emma, his family, new baby niece Ruby, surfing
Wining the first Showdown, spending the night in the Presidential Suite, "Mandate" boy band challenge
WHO WILL GO THIS WEEK:
"It will be Jade or the Sugar Sisters, but hopefully it's Tully."
