MARYBOROUGH'S social butterfly, Catherine Wylie, is celebrating her 100th birthday on Friday with a letter from the Queen and family by her side.

The spritely senior says she has lived a nice, quiet life.

"I've had a good life - I can't complain about it.

"I don't drink, I don't smoke, I don't swear - you'll never hear me swear."

The great-great grandmother said it was important to always make loved ones a priority.

"Look after your family," she said.

"It's essential."

When first shown one of her birthday cards, she said: "Well who is she supposed to be?"

"The Queen," was the reply.

It was a card from Queen Elizabeth wishing her sincere congratulations and best wishes on her 100th birthday.

Catherine, who has been heavily involved with Country Woman's Association, War Widows, Legacy and indoor bowls, was born in Maryborough on this day in 1914.

During her life, she has lived all over Queensland and in South Australia, returning to the Heritage City 60 years ago.

She met husband Colin Wylie on a train while he was serving in the air force during the war and they had two sons, Allan and Ross.

Catherine had lived on her own since her husband died in 1980s and has only recently moved into an aged care home.
