Marina shares her most-loved songs

MARINA Prior's name is synonymous with major productions of big musicals in Australia.

The Australian soprano's pristine voice has been behind some of the best-known and loved characters to command the stage.

In her career spanning 30 years, she had toured the country as Christine in The Phantom of the Opera, Cosette in Les Miserables and Mrs Banks in the recent hit production of Mary Poppins.

She has become regarded as Australia's leading lady of musical theatre, and was even named one of Australia's 100 entertainers of the Century.

Ipswich fans will soon have the chance to see Prior live on stage like never before - in an intimate performance, singing all her favourite songs and sharing stories from her career.

The show, called Marina Prior - The Encore Tour, will be held at the Ipswich Civic Centre for one night only on Friday, September 27.

"I'm looking forward to performing in such a great venue and to performing to an audience that can't always come to Sydney and Melbourne to see a lot of the shows I've done," Prior said about her upcoming show.

"Fans can expect great hit songs from Cats, Les Miserables, Phantom, Sound of Music, as well as some beautiful folk music, and a very intimate, informal, fun night."

As a bonus, Prior will also perform songs from her new album Both Sides Now which features songs from her busking days - a collection of music from the female performers of the 70s and 80s.

Prior said she found it easy to stay passionate about performing because she always felt is was what she was born to do.

"It's always thrilling, challenging and always diverse," she said.

Out of her vast repertoire, Prior said she enjoyed singing The Phantom of The Opera the best.

"Because I can sense how much the audience love it as soon as I start," she said.

The show will begin at 8pm. Tickets range from $60-$70 and can be booked at ipswichciviccentre.com.au or by phoning 3810 6100.
