Maradona unwanted as Bulls chase final glory
"THE hard work is done. It's just a game of footy now.''
With those calming words, Ipswich City Bulls coach Nev O'Sullivan is urging his team to enjoy tonight's Capital League 2 grand final against The Gap.
Having watched the fourth-placed Bulls eliminate premiers Annerley last weekend, O'Sullivan knows his team can beat The Gap in the title decider.
However, his confidence comes with a warning.
"Just because they've made the grand final doesn't mean they become Maradona and Ronaldo,'' the experienced coach said.
"They got there for a reason doing what they can do well. Just concentrate on that.
"A lot of times, people get caught up in the situation trying to take too many people on and do flicks and things like that. If they stick to the basics, we should be alright.''
The last time the Bulls won a grand final was in 2009 when City upstaged Division 2 favourites Western Spirit on penalties at Bundamba.
O'Sullivan was ironically the Spirit coach in that match before putting a lot of time and energy into the Bulls.
"At the end of the day, I'd like a little bit of silverware. I haven't won too much as a coach,'' the former St Helen's and Ipswich Knights defender said.
"It's not a bad field actually. It's nice and flat and suits our game.
"All the pluses are there. We've just got to do the business for 90 minutes.''
O'Sullivan has named an unchanged squad to the one which beat Annerley 2-1 last weekend.
However, he's waiting to see if classy midfielder Lucas Wilson can win his race against time to be fit.
Wilson has been battling a quad injury.
