WHEN Manju Jehu eloped with her English-Australian husband to Australia in 1978, she couldn't cook to save her own life.

Now her yummy recipe for samosas might be available in the frozen food section at Woolworths tomorrow.

The grandmother of two, who has been Ipswich's honorary Indian ambassador since 2004, will appear tonight on the new reality cooking show, Recipe to Riches.

The channel 10 series involves cooks from across the country, competing to have their recipe become a brand product in supermarkets.

Contestants cook their dish, create a brand for their product and devise strategies to launch it to the public.

The weekly winner then has their product on the shelves of Woolworths the day after the episode screens, with viewers across the nation literally able to taste the result of the contestants work.

Growing up in a privileged family in India, Manju said she came to expect perfection when it came to her food.

But when she arrived in Australia, her upbringing meant she had no knowledge of how to cook.

"Being so far from home, I craved and missed so much when it came to food," the 58-year-old said.

"I missed the authenticity."

After searching for samosas at health food stores and finding nothing, Ms Jehu realised her situation had presented her with an incentive to learn how to cook.

"I experimented with different versions of samosa recipes over the years until I came up with this current recipe which I loved - and so did my family and friends," she said.

It will be this recipe that Ms Jehu hopes will win her the 'World Food' section of the competition tonight.

"I found out about Recipe to Riches when I was sent a generic email about the show," she said.

"There was an application form attached to the email, and with the encouragement of a friend, I convinced myself that I should share my cooking with the world."

Ms Jehu said she had passed the recipe on to her daughter and was looking forward to the chance of having her culinary delight shared with Australia.

Manju's episode will air tonight at 7.30pm on Channel 10.
