'Softly spoken' man charged with takeaway robbery

UNDISGUISED and carrying a screwdriver, a softly spoken armed robber fled from a Nambour takeaway store with $4.

A 21-year-old Kandanga man was charged with armed robbery after he allegedly walked into The Lunchbox cafe at Burnside and demanded cash just before 6am yesterday.

A Police Media spokeswoman said the owner of the Windsor Rd store refused, and the offender leaned over and tried to open the till.

The owner then quickly grabbed the till key.

In a last dash for cash, the man allegedly pocketed $4 sitting on top of the till and fled in a car.

There was no CCTV available, but a search of the vehicle's number plates resulted in an arrest within hours.

The man was granted bail with conditions and is due to appear in court again on August 18.
