Man of the people set to visit his fans before 150th race

WITH the motorsport spotlight falling on Ipswich this weekend, V8 Supercars Man of the People Aaron McGill is making a pit stop to meet fans.

No one has more starts in V8s than McGill who will chalk up his 150th race when he takes to the grid in the Coates Hire 400 at Queensland Raceway on Friday.

The former regular in GT Production and two-litre Super Touring, and now veteran of V8 DVS, will call into Battery World West Ipswich from 3pm-6pm Wednesday to meet fans and sign autographs.

Battery World franchisees Howdie and Ruthie Farrar love their motorsport and are thrilled to be able to bring such a genuine driver to meet fans.

They said not only could fans check out McGill's V8 Supercar and hear some race stories but also they could be in the running to win a hot lap around the track.

"He is a true grit driver who loves nothing more than talking about the sport with fans," Mr Farrar said.

McGill is called the Marathon Man, holding the record for the most race starts in the V8 Development V8 Supercar series.

He has been a stayer and consistent driver for the past 20 years only missing six V8 races in the past 10 years.

Never big on budget, his small team keeps the tyres turning through sponsors like Battery World and their fans are also a big part of that.

Trekking from Adelaide's Clipsal to the Perth 500 to Townsville and now Ipswich takes maximum effort in transporting both team and cars but McGill wouldn't miss it - this will be his 13th year racing at Ipswich.

"To achieve 150 starts really is something," McGill said.

"No one will get within a bull's roar of that.

"We may not always win but there is plenty in that motto - you have got to be in it to win it.

"The Ipswich event pulls a terrific crowd.

"The track lets the car unleash big horsepower and has fast flowing corners."
