Man killed in Warrego Highway crash identified

THE man who died in a crash at Glenore Grove was due to appear in Toowoomba Magistrates Court yesterday morning.

Nicholas Mervyn Hicks, a 32-year-old Toowoomba man, was facing one count of possessing dangerous drugs, schedule one drug quantity of or exceeding schedule three but less than schedule four.

The matter was adjourned to allow prosecutors to finalise details around the man's death.

Hicks crashed into a tree on the Warrego Highway about 4.45am on Wednesday.

He died at the scene.

Queensland Police confirmed 29-year-old Corey Maxwell was travelling with Hicks in a separate vehicle at the time of the crash and was later arrested.

Maxwell faced Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Thursday charged with burglary, receiving tainted property, four counts of possessing stolen property, possessing dangerous drugs and unlawful possession of ammunition.

The alleged stolen property consisted of jewellery and other personal items.

The court denied Maxwell's bail and he will be held in custody until his next appearance in the court on September 23.

Officers from the Forensic Crash Unit are seeking any witnesses who were travelling on the highway and may have seen, or been overtaken by, two dark-coloured sedans travelling east bound in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Anyone with information or dashcam vision is urged to contact Policelink on 131 444 or at www.police.qld.gov.au/reporting.
