Firearm charges laid in Rocky drug lab investigation

12.30pm: A DRUG lab was discovered in a North Rockhampton home yesterday afternoon, with chemicals and apparatus located in the clandestine laboratory.

A tip-off from the public sparked a police investigation which led to a search warrant being issued for a home in High Street, Berserker.

Detective Sergeant Steve Paskin, with the Rockhampton CIB, said the items will be transported to Brisbane for analysis.

"Police are continuing to investigate the laboratory and at this stage have not questioned anybody," he said.

"(But) we are hoping to lay charges in the near future."

At this stage no drugs have been uncovered, only items involved with the production of drugs.

No charges have been laid in relation to the drug lab, however a 33-year-old man has been charged with possession of a firearm and shortening of a firearm.

The weapon in question was a .22 calibre rifle.

He was bailed to appear at a later date.

The house has been declared a crime scene, and Det Sgt Paskin said it may take considerable time to dismantle.

Investigations are continuing.
