A MAN was taken to hospital after a two cars collided head on at the corner of McDougall and Taylor Sts at 12:30pm this afternoon.

A Toyota sedan ended up against a pole in the intersection and a white Ford Falcon was leaking oil following the crash.

The turn from Taylor St into McDougall St was blocked by the crash.

Firefighters, ambulance and police officers attended the scene.

Toowoomba Fire Station officer Greg Stewart said when crews arrived all the occupants were out of the vehicles.

"One patient will be transported to Toowoomba Hospital so that his injuries can be monitored," he said.

Mr Stewart said it was important that motorists drive safely over the holiday season.

 "People are travelling long distances to see friends and loved ones so we're asking everyone to take regular breaks and not to speed or drink and drive."
