Man in his 30s drowns on Gold Coast beach

A man in his 30s has drowned at a Gold Coast beach, Queensland Ambulance Service has confirmed.

The man was pulled unconscious from the surf at Broadbeach just after 8.30am Thursday and lifeguards performed CPR on him on the beach until paramedics arrived.

A QAS spokeswoman said high-acuity response unit officers then continued unsuccessfully to revive him for more than 45 minutes.

It is believed the man suffered a cardiac arrest, however another report on the Gold Coast said he  broke his neck bodyboarding at the beach on Broadbeach Blvd.

He was pronounced dead at about 9.50am.
