Man fronts court accused of attempted murder with arrow

A 35-year-old Brisbane man is due to face a charge of attempted murder in court this morning for allegedly shooting a sleeping man with an arrow on Sunday night.

The 51-year-old hit in the back by the arrow, was sleeping near the Queen Street pylon on the Bicentennial bikeway in Brisbane City.

After raising the alarm at a nearby store, the victim was rushed to hospital where he underwent emergency surgery.

Police released grainy surveillance images of a suspect, purportedly showing him cycling past the sleeping man, then returning to attack.

The accused is expected to face Brisbane Magistrates Court.

Acting Deputy Commission Mike Condon gave a brief media conference about the case at 8.45am outside Police Headquarters in Brisbane.

He said "comment will be limited" because the charges were now before the court.
