Man says he forgot to pay for items due to an anxiety attack

A MAN who was caught stealing $115 worth of groceries said he forgot to pay for the items due to his anxiety attacks.

Willie James Babbage, 21, pleaded guilty to unauthorised dealing of shop goods at Ipswich Magistrates Court.

The court was told he was seen stealing the items by hiding them in a blue, enviro shopping bag at Coles at Redbank on September 11.

He was stopped by staff after he went through the self-service check-out without paying.

He claimed he forgot to pay due to his anxiety attacks.

Defence lawyer Alexis Oxley said Babbage had been diagnosed with some medical conditions, which he was being treated for.

He was placed on a two-month good behaviour bond and no convictions were recorded.
