Accused a 'flight risk'

A MAN who allegedly set fire to a house in Goodna on Thursday night has been refused bail.

Jason Andrew Muehlfenzl, 41, faced Ipswich Magistrates Court yesterday charged with one count each of arson and possessing dangerous drugs.

Police Prosecutor Acting Sergeant Brad Dick said Muehlfenzl threatened to kill witnesses at the house on Marie St as he poured fuel around the home and set it alight.

"We have signatures of eye witnesses who saw him lighting the fire," Sgt Dick said.

"He made admissions in a interview (with police)."

Sgt Dick said Muehlfenzl's criminal history showed "page after page of violent and destructive offences".

"He is clearly an unacceptable flight risk," Sgt Dick said.

Defence lawyer Matthew Fairclough said his client was employed as a weigh bridge operator and would live with his brother if allowed bail.

Muehlfenzl will next appear on December 14 at 2pm.
