Man faces court over alleged assault

A MAN faced court from custody nursing a black eye charged with assault after an alleged incident at Roadvale at the weekend.

Police will allege Rick Douglas Mears, 27, drove a four-wheel drive at a 47-year-old man standing outside a Roadvale address about 4am on Saturday morning - the older man managed to jump out of the way and Mears allegedly crashed into another vehicle pushing that car into the rear wall of the garage.

It will be further alleged that a physical struggle ensued between the older man and Mears during which victim sustained injuries to his face and hand, and was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Mears, from Lowood, was charged with acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm, assault occasioning bodily harm, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and wilful damage.

Mears appeared at Ipswich Magistrates Court wearing a brown prison-issued tracksuit. He had a black eye and was supported by his mother and family at court. His defence did not make an application for bail and his case will next be heard on June 13.
