Man charged with attempted murder over bashing

A MAN has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly bashing a woman so severely she required hospitalisation.

Harley George Williams, 32, appeared briefly in Ipswich Magistrates Court following his arrest during the early hours of Friday morning.

Mr Williams has been charged attempted murder, deprivation of liberty, torture and grievous bodily harm.

He made no application for bail during his brief court appearance.

Magistrate Virginia Sturgess adjourned the matter until February 1.

Police will allege Mr Williams carried out a sustained attack on the much smaller Stephanie Parsons, 21, that resulted in her suffering a punctured lung, broken ribs and other injuries.

Emergency services were called to a Dell St residence about 1.30am. The woman was taken to Ipswich Hospital in a stable condition.

The alleged offender and victim were known to each other, but police said the pair were not in a relationship.
