Mackay man dies in highway crash

UPDATE: A 53-year-old Mackay man died at the scene of a serious crash on the Bruce Highway, south of Proserpine, this morning.

About 7.35am, police were called to a stretch of the highway about 1.5km south of Proserpine after a head-on collision between two utilities.

The 53-year-old man was a passenger in a vehicle being driven northbound by a 43-year-old Mackay woman.

The woman was transported by ambulance to Proserpine Base Hospital for treatment.

The occupants of the southbound vehicle, a 22-year-old Proserpine man who was driving, and a 20-year-old Pimlico man, were not injured during the crash.

Anyone with information that could assist police with their investigations can contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
