Man charged after gunpoint arrest

POLICE have charged a 34-year-old Gold Coast man following a dramatic arrest in Redbank Plains.

About 14 officers responded to reports of a disturbance on Berrigan St, about 2.30pm yesterday.

Police surrounded the man's black Mazda sedan as he attempted to drive away from the area.

A sawn-off rifle and dangerous drugs were allegedly found in the vehicle.

Nobody was injured during the disturbance or the subsequent arrest.

The man, from Pimpama, has been charged with two counts of unlawful possession of a weapon, possessing a shortened firearm, possessing ammunition, possessing dangerous drugs, failing to dispose of a needle and syringe and receiving tainted property.

He will appear at Ipswich Magistrates Court this morning.
