Man airlifted to Brisbane hospital from Gatton crash scene

A MAN is in hospital in a serious condition after a single-vehicle crash in the Lockyer Valley this afternoon.

The man, 24, was airlifted to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane after the car he was driving struck a power pole on South St, Gatton, about 2.40pm.

Initial investigations indicate the Ford Falcon sedan lost control and hit the power pole, causing "significant damage" to the vehicle, police said.

The 24-year-old driver suffered serious injuries and was treated at the scene by Queensland Ambulance paramedics.

A male passenger, 25, suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The RACQ LifeFlight helicopter airlifted the man to the PA Hospital after 3pm.

"Police are appealing with witnesses to contact them if they have not yet done so and are also appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the vehicle prior to the incident," police said in a statement.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
