Knife-man accused of violent home invasion in court today

Police have charged a man following an alleged burglary with violence at Haigslea yesterday morning.

Police will allege at around 5am a man forced entry into a number of vehicles located at a property on Haigslea Cemetery Rd in Haigslea.

The man, who was armed with a knife, entered the residence through a back door and threatened the occupants - three women and two men - who had been sleeping upstairs.

A 46-year-old woman was assaulted and dragged a short distance before the man fled the residence. It is believed the woman sustained minor injuries.

Police attending the scene arrested a man in the vicinity.

A 28-year-old Gatton man has been charged with 11 offences including five counts of enter dwelling with intent, two counts of attempted armed robbery, and one count each of assault, enter premises with intent, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and attempted unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

The man was denied police bail and is due to appear at Ipswich Magistrates Court today.
