Man, 63, guilty of raping child
A SCENIC Rim man has been found guilty of repeatedly raping a girl when she was as young as five.
At his trial in the Ipswich District Court yesterday, Graham Alfred Clark, 63, was found guilty of three counts of rape and one count indecent treatment of a child under care.
He was sentenced to six years jail, with 371 days of pre-sentence custody declared.
He will be eligible for parole after 50% of the sentence has been served.
The court saw video testimony, recorded in 2010 and 2012 of a girl, 11, who told of how Clark, raped her over a period of years.
In the videos shown in the Ipswich District the girl claimed she had been repeatedly raped by Clark when she was as young as five.
The court heard Clark had repeatedly put his hands inside her pants when they were alone, raped her and told her that when she was grown up he was going to sleep with her.
When asked by police in the 2010 video whether she could describe what sex was, she struggled. However, later in the same interview the girl described a time when she claimed Clark had sex with her without ever using the word to describe it.
In the 2012 video, when a defence lawyer for Clark asked if what she had claimed "isn't true, is it?" she broke down in tears before saying it had happened.
She eventually told her aunt what Clark had done to her, and told her parents she didn't want to visit his house anymore.
Her aunt told her parents, who took her to the police in 2010.
Clark pleaded not guilty.
