LETTERS: PM tries to fool us with GST misinformation

THE Prime Minister has stated that if the GST rise is introduced, the lower income earners who are below taxation level would be fairly compensated as was the case when the GST legislation was first introduced.

The only compensation when first introduced was a one-off grant up to $1000 depending if you had savings and the amount of grant depending on how much savings.

No savings, no grant.

Even knowing the purpose of introducing the GST was to raise the cost of living by 10%, the assurance was "nobody would be worse off ".

The bigger your family, the more tax paid due to having to buy more. Funeral expenses would rise $500 plus.

It would appear that this assurance "nobody would be worse off" could be viewed as political false pretence.
