Major delays for train commuters

SUNSHINE Coast and Caboolture commuters could be delayed at least an hour this morning after all lines between Petrie and the Coast had to be closed due to a fault.

Queensland Rail technicians are on site working to remedy the fault.

The knock-on effect could leave some Ipswich services delayed.

Buses are transporting customers between Caboolture and Petrie in both directions as an alternative.

The lines were first "lost" between 4am and 5am, with the issue appearing to be "a points failure".

It directly affects the mechanism that allows rail lines to alter the paths of trains.

The problems will affect all Sunshine Coast and Caboolture services, but as some of these run-on to Ipswich, some delays will be felt at that end as well.

A TransLink spokesman said there was not yet any indication of when these lines would reopen, although its website suggests a 60 minute delay.
