Madeline bids for state title

WEST Moreton Anglican College student Madeline Rodgers is the pride of her school and the Lions Club of Rosewood.

The Year 12 student is the first Rosewood Lions Youth of the Year competitor to reach the state final level of the competition in more than 20 years, according to Rosewood Lions member Christine Forrest.

Madeline will compete against three other hopefuls in the state finals in Rockhampton tomorrow.

The WestMAC academic captain said she relished the opportunity.

"I took part in it last year and I initially saw it as a public speaking competition, but it's so much more than that," Madeline said.

"It's also about making sure you're up to date on current affairs, making sure you are well informed and have an opinion."

Madeline has so far won her club final, the Ipswich regional final and most recently the district final of the Youth of the Year competition.
