Lutheran college approved

SPRINGFIELD Central residents will welcome the news that council has approved the master area development plan for the construction of the St Peters Lutheran College.

Planning and Development Committee chairman Paul Tully said council had now approved the master plan for the school.

“The plan includes a three- hectare area to be developed, in stages, as an educational estab- lishment with a pre-school, primary and secondary school,” Cr Tully said. “It is anticipated that at final development, the school will have 900 students – 461 primary and 439 secondary.

“The school will be located to the south of Sinnathamby Boulevard, with further access roads to be developed, and have a number of multi-storey buildings, as well as a sports field and various car parks.”

Division 9 Councillor Sheila Ireland said the development would be welcomed by local residents who wanted to send their children to a school closer to home.

“Springfield Central is a fast-developing area with a major shopping centre, university campus, restaurants, gyms and much more, so incorporating a combined prep, primary and high school will meet the needs of many local parents,” she said.

“The facilities on offer in Springfield Central provide locals with almost everything they could possibly need, right on their doorstep.”
