A FEMALE motorist had a lucky escape this morning after her four-wheel-drive burst into flames in a two vehicle crash at Birtinya this morning.

Emergency services were called to Kawana Way out the front of the Homemaker Centre at 8.35am after the collision with another vehicle.

One witness described hearing three loud explosions, interspersed by short silences, as fire engulfed the four-wheel-drive.

"It was pretty shocking," she said.

"Two women drivers were crying as staff from shops nearby came rushing out asking "What's happened, what's happened?"

No one was injured in the crash, according to a Department of Community Services spokeswoman
