Lovers lucky to escape the law after public sex

A COUPLE has been busted having sex on the Bluewater Trail.

This time the frolicking lovebirds were lucky. Passers-by didn't notify the police, but chose to share their observation on the Daily Mercury Facebook page.

While some readers were outraged, many couldn't see what the big deal was.

However, Mackay District Crime Prevention Unit's Senior Constable Steve Smith knows.

"This sort of behaviour would require a court appearance," he said.

"Obviously that type of activity at that location is not appropriate.

"If police were made aware of it, enforcement actions would be taken."

Snr Const Smith said police on bikes were monitoring the area.

"Their presence is being acknowledged by members of the public," he said.

"We have training planned to increase the number of officers to have qualifications to use police bikes."

Snr Const Smith said an increased use of the trail meant increasing police monitoring was appropriate.

"The use of the Bluewater Trail has increased quite a bit," he said.

"It's not something we are ignoring."

Mackay resident Kym Mchutcheon regularly rides her bike along the trail.

"I haven't seen this type of behaviour personally," she said.

"But I think it's disgusting."
