Looting cases adjourned

TWO men accused of looting during the floods had their cases adjourned in the Ipswich Magistrates Court yesterday.

Shawn James Wyllie, 18, allegedly committed a string of burglaries in the Ipswich area before and during the floods.

Lawyer Matthew Fairclough appeared for Wyllie yesterday and said he could not deal with the matter yet as his client had not come in for an appointment.

The case was adjourned to March 15.

Mr Fairclough also appeared for Scott Richard Buchanan, 34, who is charged with one offence of stealing by looting on January 23 at Ipswich. He failed to arrive at court yesterday.

He said Buchanan had been in regular contact and he was not sure why he had not turned up.

Buchanan’s appearance was excused yesterday.

Mr Fairclough said he was obtaining a report from Buchanan’s psychiatrist as there could be mental health issues.

Buchanan is next due in court on March 23.
