Accused looter appears in court

A MAN accused of looting an Ipswich pub during flooding appeared in court yesterday.

Joshua Ross Redding, 18, allegedly stole alcohol from Weeroona Hotel at Goodna on January 13 as the floodwaters began to recede.

Redding faced Ipswich Magistrates Court accused of stealing by looting. The 18-year-old has not yet entered a plea and remained silent during the brief hearing.

Defence lawyer Matthew Fairclough said his client needed to adjourn the case to obtain legal advice.

Redding will next face court on February 24 along with a 19-year-old man and a 17-year-old woman who were also accused of looting the flooded hotel.

The charge of stealing by looting carries a maximum penalty of 10 years’ jail whereas the maximum for stealing is five.
