Local environmentalist wins major award

WEST Moreton Landcare Group President Bob Hampson has won the Healthy Waterways award for Waterways Champion.

Mr Hampson recently championed the Black Snake Creek project at Marburg.

The environmentalist has dedicated 15 years to waterway protection and improvement.

His achievements include establishing successful partnerships, coordinating catchment awareness events and helping individual landholders and community organisations implement proactive on-ground riparian projects.

Rosewood-based councillor David Pahlke said the win was well deserved.

"I have a great respect for Bob as a person and for his involvement in so many areas of the environment in our community," Cr Pahlke said.

Healthy Waterways chief executive officer Julie McLellan said the annual Healthy Waterways Awards recognised individuals, groups and organisations contributing to the protection and improvement of South East Queensland's waterways.

"Our waterways are an important part of our lifestyle and economy," Ms McLellan said.
