Talent to grace Laidley Country Music Festival this weekend

GET your cowboy boots on because the Laidley Country Music Festival is back again delighting country music lovers across the region.

Aside from offering some of the most talented local and national country artists, proceeds from the event will be donated to the Queensland Cancer Council.

Event organiser Ken Maguire said last year the festival was able to donate $6600 to the Cancer Council.

"We are hoping to give them at least the same if not more this year," he said.

Mr Maguire said the highlights of the festival were Laura Downing, Jeff Brown, Pete Smith, Trevor Tolton and Ken Mellow, who will all play on the main stage on Saturday from 2pm til 11pm.

Another highlight of the festival is the walk-up concert, with Greg Dillon, held each day and night.

"Anyone who wants to sing can get up and sing - 9.30am to around 1pm each day of the festival," he said.

"It's a good opportunity for local singers that perhaps haven't been discovered yet.

"We are expecting around 35 to 40 walk up artists."

Mr Maguire said he expected around 500 people to attend the five-day festival held this year.

"We will run a raffle every day with ten prizes and draw it every night," he said.

"And there will be 15 prizes in the raffle for the main show."

The Laidley Country Music Festival will be held at Laidley Showgrounds until Saturday, March 5. Tickets for the duration of the festival cost $20 for adults, $5 for school children and $50 for families of two adults plus children and are available at the gate.
