HARD JOB: Maybe our judges should try being police officers.
HARD JOB: Maybe our judges should try being police officers. Trevor Veale

LETTER: Time to show police understanding

THE judge who said police went overboard at Palm Island should get some life experiences before criticising those involved.

What does the judge think is an acceptable response?

Imagine a lone judge in a courthouse on an island half an hour off the coast and no assistance, whether it be help from police or civilians.

Outside that courthouse their pet dog is clubbed to death.

Their worldly are being possessions burned in the fire at the judge's own residence.

Around the courthouse rioters are yelling: "Kill the judge".

I doubt any judge would accept those circumstances without a strong police presence.

However, the judge thinks it's not appropriate for people like Chris Hurley and his fellow police officers to have the level of police presence the judge criticised.

I think we need to have an apology from the justice system and not this sort of criticism.
