LETTER: Register now to give life to others

THANKS to Editor Peter Chapman for pointing out how few of us have bothered to put our names on the organ transplant register.

I was like the editor in that I had made up my mind to be a donor, but had done nothing about it.

I followed his call and went online to www.donatelife.gov.au and have now registered my intentions.

I know of a young lad at the moment who has been waiting for almost two years for a transplant and constantly wears a pager waiting for a call from the hospital. Twice he has been called in and prepared for the transplant operation only for it to be cancelled at the last moment.

He is a young father and his life is currently on hold because of his health.

We are placed here on this earth to not just help ourselves, but to more importantly help others. If my passing can add to what I have tried to do in that regard I will leave knowing I didn't die for nothing.
