LETTER: A better idea for backpacker tax

13%-15%-30% tax? What rot. Here's a thought.

Why not encourage Aussie-born farm workers, by offering lower tax for those able to occupy harvesting positions, by lowering their tax rates for this occupation.

Do not hit them with heavy taxes for working weekends and early-late broken shift times when they carry out this works in harvesting period.

Look after our own young workers by offering incentives. At least then, we would not have to supply "backpacker" accommodation within our farming communities.

This is not rocket science.

Barnaby Joyce, put your thinking cap on, come up with a tax scheme offering encouraging incentives to get out there and work.
