Leila great at getting that extra weight off

WHEN it comes to losing weight, Leila Saunderson knows all the answers.

She knows that might sound vain but says it's because she's been through it all herself.

"But I cannot tell anyone how to lose weight; the answer is within them," Leila said.

"What I do is draw that answer out and once they hear their own answer, it makes more sense to them."

This year has been very rewarding for the Ipswich Weight Watchers leader.

First, she fulfilled a life-time dream of walking the Inca Trail in South America to celebrate her 60th birthday.

After she got back, she went to the annual Weight Watchers seminar for leaders in NSW and Queensland and collected two coveted awards.

One was Australasian salesperson of the year and she was also named Diamond Leader for the fourth year.

She said that award was given to a selected few, highly motivational leaders who inspired their members to success.

This year, Leila said, she helped 12 people attain lifetime membership by getting to their goal weight and maintaining it.

There are also several excited members who will attain their goal weight very shortly, she said.

Leila believes always putting the members first is what helped her to achieve her awards.

Weight Watchers member Caroline Turnock of Leichhardt said Leila's own experiences made her an ideal leader.

"She's just very inspirational herself. Anything a member has been through, Leila has been through herself and she's really honest and upfront," she said.

"When you come to the meetings, she gets everyone to join in, which is sometimes hard because not everyone wants to talk but she tells her own story.

"There's a lot of reasons why you eat and most of them aren't because you're hungry. So Leila helps people open up and talk about what's hampering them from losing weight.

"It's not a matter of what you look like; you can be beautiful whatever size you are. But when your life is restricted and you can't do the things you want to do that's when you need to take stock."

Leila's top tips

  • Eat breakfast.
  • Keep track of what you eat.
  • Make sure you eat enough.
  • Eat filling and healthy foods.
  • Eat a good variety of foods.
